Jack Longhurst - Field Sales Team Lead
We know that you have an exciting background and experience in sales, and we are super excited to have you in the role of Field Sales Team Lead. Could you briefly tell us what you did before joining Svea Solar?
I started off my career in sales as soon as I had finished high school, selling home security systems door to door. I had no real expectations of the job, but was eager to get going and to start making my own money. As it turned out, I did a stellar job and quickly established myself as one of the best performing Sales Consultants in the country. After being nominated for Sales Consultant of the Year, twice, I then took on a new challenge as Sales Manager. As much as I enjoyed that period of my working life, the solar industry was on the rise, and when an opportunity arose at Svea Solar I simply could not say no.
How has your journey at Svea Solar been, and how do you envision your future within the company?
Starting at Svea Solar, I took on a role as an On Site Sales Consultant. The role meant carrying out home visits at customers who were in the middle of the sales process, to assess installation conditions and, at least as important, being a crucial part to help close the deals. Six months into my time at Svea Solar, the On Site Sales department had expanded to the point where it was decided to divide us into three separate regions, and I was offered a role as Team Manager for one of them. As of now, my new role as Field Sales Team Lead is to lead our new sales initiative forwards. I see a bright, long future within this company, with lots of opportunities for development, and I am extremely motivated to finally get this going.
If you were to describe your leadership style in three words, what would they be?
Humble and democratic, yet very determined. I firmly believe in listening to employees, having good input and innovative ideas being put to practice.
How would you briefly describe the role of a field sales representative? What does an average day look like for a salesperson in your team?
As a Field Sales Consultant, your job will be to bring in deals, thus helping rid the planet of fossil fuels. Through different methods, pre-booked sales meetings will lay the foundations for your day. Traveling between visits by car, you will create personalized offers to a variety of private customers. Using your best sales techniques to close the deals, happy and satisfied customers should always be your highest priority.
Which qualities and skills do you value the most in a salesperson on your team?
As with people overall, no salesperson is exactly like another. One of the many reasons for my passion for sales, is seeing people with different personalities and skills, all working towards the same goal whilst using vastly different methods. As long as you have the determination to succeed in whatever you choose to take on, you are highly likely to thrive in the world of sales too. The only personal trait that I value above all is having both feet on the ground, at all times.
Exciting times ahead - I heard that Svea Solar nearly doubling the size of the sales team in 2024. What opportunities will this bring to the members of your team? 🎉
We are doubling our inhouse sales team, as well as establishing the field sales initiative. Starting off small, in the southern parts of the country, field sales is already set to evolve and eventually expand to the rest of the country. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to help build and develop an entirely new sales division, at one of Europe’s leading solar companies. Naturally, scaling up and expanding potentially brings opportunities for high performers who envision building career paths with us.
What type of support and resources will you provide your team?
No salesperson is ever fully learned. Being responsible for the team, one of my jobs is to make sure each and everyone in the team reaches their fullest potential - every single day. Weekly and, if needed, even daily meetings and follow-ups, as well as transparent dialogues and continuous sales training will all be an important part in fulfilling that. We have a tremendous amount of talent and experience in the company, and we use that a lot when help is needed.
