Joakim Karlsson - TA Manager
Tell us about yourself and your role at Svea Solar?
Born and raised here in Stockholm, currently living in Solna. Overall, even if it might sound boring, I'm a very easygoing person, full of energy and I believe it is very important to have an active and healthy lifestyle. The most important elements in my life are, of course, my family and friends. Following that, a significant amount of my time is devoted to training and supporting my beloved AIK 🖤💛
For the past couple of weeks, I'm responsible together with the TA team, consisting of 4 recruiters, for the talent acquisition in our Swedish market.
You've done quite a journey here at Svea right? Tell us about it
Yes, and I'm super happy about it! I'm proud to call myself a true power shifter and have Svea to thank for much of my personal growth. Four years ago, I was hired as the company's first recruiter, with a focus on scaling up and ensuring the quality of the recruitment process. We were in a situation where we needed to increase the pace and be able to handle a large volume of candidates without compromising on quality. Digitalization in the form of a new ATS, e-signature, and other great tools made this possible for us, but it would never have worked without all our competent and helpful hiring managers across the country. We did it together!
When the HRBP role was introduced for the first time, with a focus on our Installation department, I was quick to raise my hand, and what an incredibly educational and enjoyable year it has been. Working so closely with my leader Maria and the installation managers, in our core business, and immersing myself in their daily lives, along with the collaboration with SEF (Swedish Electricians' Union), has been incredibly exciting and educative.
But the longing for recruitment, the talent hunt, and the internal/external social networking have been a bit too strong for me since I left the TA world. And now, together with my fantastic team, I am ready to recruit the best talent out there.
What's the biggest difference between Svea today and Svea when you started?
Oh wow, the difference in certain aspects is enormous. In others, there is no difference at all. When I was hired, the company had just over 150 employees in one country, and today we are nearly 10 times that number across 5 different markets. A lot has happened along the way, and there's a significant difference in areas such as competence level, long term goals, system support, our shared service function, and overall processes today compared to 2019. We have gone through a lot, a tough pandemic, expansion in Europe, major investment rounds, collaboration with IKEA, and so on. Much has happened.
But what makes me most happy is that we have managed to maintain a kind and humble culture. From the small family company in Sollentuna, we continue in 2023 with a culture where employees care and are curious about each other, despite the extreme hypergrowth and hard work required from many employees. We have a caring culture. People first! ❤️
What's the best thing about your job?
Simple answer! Getting the opportunity, together with the team, to get to know, understand, and influence all of our departments. Everything from sales to customer service to finance and installation. The key to success, as the expertise function we are, is that we as a team work as close to the business as possible. It's truly a luxury to be able to work so extensively with all the different departments!
What are you most proud of at Svea Solar?
Apart from the obvious fact that we are making a huge impact for the planet and our climate, Im so proud that we offer the enormous opportunity for many young and driven individuals to grow rapidly within our organization. It is extremely gratifying when existing employees apply for new roles and get the chance to grow internally. This is not only crucial for our growth in the coming years but also an opportunity for motivated employees to grow both personally and professionally at a faster pace compared to other companies/industries.
Tell me about something you do outside of work?
Right now, I'm in a period of intense training, particularly focused on long-distance running. There's nothing better than tie the running shoes and clearing my mind and body in nature after a hard and intense day at work. It's my way of being able to press reset in a simple and quick way.
