Malin Cronqvist - Head of Sustainability
Tell us about yourself and your role at Svea Solar?
I’ve been working at Svea Solar for just over a year now – it has gone incredibly fast.
Personally, I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie who loves adventures. I guess that is also part of why I joined Svea Solar’s journey. It is a faced paced rollercoaster, where we all learn along the way and don’t always know what the final destination looks like. We rather have to find it out and create things as we go along, and that suits me perfectly!
As a person I love to see things move from A to B, I guess I’m a bit impatient. It’s not all bad though, since my role as Global Head of Sustainability is all about challenging, supporting and empowering the organization with skills on how we can work even more sustainably.
What's the best thing about your job?
It sounds like such a cliché, but I love that it is so varied with new things happening every week. Since sustainability is such a wide topic and something which we integrate in most of our processes, I get to work with almost all functions and markets. That gives me a really good understanding of whole company and I get to work with so many great Powershifters.
Working with sustainability right now also feels super relevant. The climate crisis is evident and a bit daunting but there is a great momentum in the European business sector and we as a company have large possibilities to make an impact for people and the planet. It feels meaningful, we are doing something very practical to address the global challenges.
What are some of the challenges that you get to face/solve in your role as Head of Sustainability?
There is and will always be more to do than can ever be done… Sustainability is not an area where you can get “done”, but rather a practice we must all get better at every day, just like with innovation or creativity. That is both a challenge and a perk, in my role I must set priorities carefully to do the right things.
Working in such a fast-growing company can be challenging since we have new people joining every day and changes are happening all the time. I must continuously work with training of new Powershifters, aligning between functions and building and nurturing a sustainable mindset. But that’s part of the fun – and I learn so much!
What have we done so far within your field here at Svea Solar and what's next?
I started by reviewing all corners of Svea Solar’s business to understand which sustainability aspects we should prioritize and where we can have an impact. Based on that, I’ve together with a steering group set a Sustainability Strategy for 2023-2027 with focus areas, goals and road maps for how to reach those goals. The next step is to work closely together with our functions to execute on the strategy and build a stronger, bigger and better Svea Solar. One concrete example is that I work closely with our Supply Chain function to reduce CO2 emissions in our value chain.
Why do you think someone should join our journey?
As I said earlier, if you want an adventure Svea Solar is the perfect place! There are a lot of opportunities to learn and grow, to shape the future of the company but also to shape the whole renewable energy industry.
Lastly, I am amazed by all the great people and the culture. My colleagues are funny, kind and super skilled – I learn a lot from all other Power Shifters!
What do you do when you're not working?
In the summertime I love to ride my mountain bike in forests around Sweden and in the winter, I try to go skiing as much as I can. I’m also part of the Board of two other organizations/companies so that keeps me occupied. The time I have left I spend eating good food and having a beer with my friends 😊
Any summer plans?
I’m going sailing for a week in the Stockholm archipelago and hope to have lots of time for relaxing and reading lots of non-work-related books since I don’t do that enough during the semesters.
