Beatrice Fernström - Head of Safety
Hey Beatrice, and welcome to #behindthegrid - where we get to know our Power Shifters better!
You've been with us in the Power Shift since April 2023. How did we have the honor of you joining us?
In addition to the fact that the industry itself is incredibly interesting, I was also attracted by the culture at Svea. The mentality and the ability to change, shift mindset, and implement improvements are absolutely incredible. It's a great team spirit.
What is your long-term focus as the Head of Safety?
To raise the bar for the industry in general and contribute to a sustainable work life.
What are you proud of in regards of safety at Svea Solar? And what's the biggest challenge?
I am proud of the transition this company has made. The entire company contributes in some way to the safety work - from sales, site visitors, customer service and our system design team to installation, Operations excellence and our Learning & Development department, that work with our Training Centers and our trainings. Everyone contributes in some way to our safety work and our safety culture.
We don't see any challenges ahead, only opportunities.
The solar industry is rather young. How does this affect the safety aspect, and what is currently happening regarding safety in the industry?
There is unhealthy competition when companies do not take into account the cost of a safe work environment in their offers to customers. This creates unsafe working conditions. As the largest player in the industry, we want to be at the forefront and show that a safe work environment pays off.
It is a new industry, which means that there is a lot of ignorance about the legal requirements that apply. For many, it is not clear that the installation of solar panels counts as an electrical installation job, for example.
Brag time! In our Safety team, you have a close collaboration with Nike Henricsson - Safety Specialist. What is the best thing about her?
Besides the fact that Nike is an expert in most areas of occupational health and safety, she also has an analytical mindset and an incredible ability to reason and draw conclusions about regulations and risks. In addition, she has a great sense of humor and is a real people person.

A little bird whispered that you are currently looking for an Electrical Safety Specialist. Why is that? And what will this person experience with us?
Safety is Svea Solar's top priority. We are an electrical installation company, and to further strengthen the Safety team and the organization, we are now looking for a person who can lead and coordinate the strategic work in this area. The person will be working closely with an already strong lineup of AC specialists and AC Competence lead.
Lastly, we at Svea Solar want to raise the bar for safety in the solar industry. What's your number one piece of advice for increasing safety at work?
Working safe must be made easy is always my mantra. The key thing for a strong safety culture in the organization is when management makes it a top priority.
