Maria Verbitskaya - Engineering Manager
Tell us about yourself and your role at Svea Solar?
Hey there! I'm Maria, your new and shiny Engineering Manager at Svea Solar. I'm all about fostering a positive team culture, coaching individuals to grow both professionally and as team players. My passion lies in driving change and development while having a fun along the way.
3 facts about me: I love swimming, prefer boxing to running and have a book club with my friends 📚
You just recently joined Svea Solar - how have your first months been and what are you most excited about?
It’s only been a month, and you probably have seen me running around the office. It always takes time to get to know the new workplace, understand the culture, traditions, ways of working – before starting to contribute to it. Building the relationship with the new team was (and is) my highest priority – understanding our area of product, needs, strong sides and even struggles helps me to be better at my job, make right steps and help&support the team where it’s truly needed.
In a bigger picture, I'm truly excited about the opportunity to make a real impact in the company working on the website and contribute to giving more customers a greener and brighter future.
What's the best thing about your job?
It’s working and growing together with the team. I enjoy that moment when you see the team thriving and self-going – owning their work processes, communicating well, being proud of our product. When team members are proactive, know how to take responsibility, support each other, and celebrate – then I know that I’ve done a good job. It takes some time to get there, for sure, and it’s a constantly evolving process – but these moments do spark joy.
What are some of the challenges that you face/solve in your role as Engineering Manager?
My mission is to juggle technical excellence while meeting deadlines and keeping it fun and motivating for the team. It should be clear why we build these things, what for, for whom – but also keep the playground free for experiments, ideas and improvements.
Why do you think someone should join our Engineering squad?
Look, our Engineering department is growing, and this is where the change is happening (right here right now). Joining us means building and creating a great product that will help society transition to fossil-free energy.
What do you do when you're not working?
When I'm not busy fixing stuff at work, you'll find me with my friends – they are my family here. Quality time with loved ones is a must, creating memories and experiences together. And, of course, my nose is always buried in a good book (or ears in audiobook).
☀️ Any summer plans?
I never miss a chance to take a swim! I’ve already opened the season, and my summer rule is to always have a towel/swim clothes with me, just in case. Thankfully, Stockholm is a great city for that – so much water and great swimming spots 🏊🏼♀️
I have only one trip planes so far – visiting my friends in Ireland, apart from that I’m up to spontaneous activities. Summer always swooshes by too fast not to make the most of those sunny days!
